A Costume Design entry must include the following items, assembled in a digital presentation format (except when otherwise called out) that is loaded on a flash dive and must be physically submitted (to be returned at the end of the festival) and a presentation.
- Makeup Sketches: Three (3) Makeup Sketches from one (1) production, each representing a different character. Each sketch must be in color. Any medium will be accepted. The entry must have a picture of each actor wearing the completed makeup included on the presentation board. A ‘before’ picture of the actor can also be included in addition to the completed makeup design photo. Makeup sketches must be the student designer’s original design. Sketches copied from books or any other medium are not allowed. Points will be awarded based on neatness, clarity of the design elements, continuity between sketches, and complete labeling and identification of materials.
- Design Concept: Describe why specific choices were made related to color, style, time period (if appropriate), texture and products used. Points will be awarded based on clarity of choices and how they support the play.
- Presentation: The student designer must deliver a presentation, either oral or PowerPoint, of their Makeup Design entry. Points will be awarded based on the student designer’s ability to describe the design and his/her artistic choices. The student designer should be clear, concise and confident in order to deliver an effective oral presentation. Student’s should specify if their design is for a virtual or live theatrical audience.
Please be prepared to answer questions from the adjudicator(s) regarding the presentation.
