A Scenic Design entry must include the following items, assembled in a digital presentation format that is loaded on a flash dive and must be physically submitted (to be returned at the end of the festival) and a presentation.
- Design Concept: Explain how and why choices were made, how those choices related to the production. Emphasis is placed on creativity, collaboration, storytelling, as well as how your design supported the overall concept of the production. Describe why specific choices were made related to color, style, texture, and line of the design.
- Ground Plan: (¼” or ½” scale) using standard symbols and references. It is acceptable to submit hand-drafted or CAD/Vectorworks light plots. The plot may be reduced by photocopying to fit on the 26” x 40” display board. Plots must contain a title block and a key to symbols. Title block must contain:
- Title of the drawing (Light Plot)
- Name of the production
- Name of the student designer
- Name of the theater
- Name of the high school
- Opening date of the production
- Scale of the light plot (e.g., ¼”=1’0”)
- Model or Rendering: One (1) rendering OR one (1) 1/2”=1’0” scale model.
- Photographs: Showcased in a digital presentation that demonstrates the concept of the scenic design.
- Oral Presentation: The student designer(s) must deliver a presentation of their design entry that effectively presents and represents their design. Oral presentations have a time limit of five (5) minutes and may utilize either PowerPoint, Google Slides, or PDFs.
Please be prepared to answer questions from the adjudicator(s) regarding the presentation.
